How it scared people
The vibe
A middle-school teacher spends the first thirty minutes calmly telling her class she knows which two of them killed her daughter, and what she has already put in their milk. Nakashima shoots the fallout in gorgeous slow motion and pop-video gloss, which makes the cruelty land harder, not softer. Almost no blood; you'll still feel wrung out.
