How it scared people

The vibe

The lawnmower finale remains the high-water mark for sheer volume of fake blood, and Peter Jackson's best joke is that his hero keeps apologizing while he does it. Between that, the custard scene and the zombie baby in the park, it's the most cheerful thing on this list. Genuinely disgusting, never once frightening.
