How it scared people
The vibe
Argento's brightest film, deliberately: white walls, glaring sun, a Rome so overlit it feels like an operating theatre. The two-and-a-half-minute Louma crane shot that climbs an entire house is the flex everyone remembers, but the severed-arm geyser across white plaster is what earned it a spot on the video nasty list. Plot's nonsense; sensation's the point.
