The entire giallo grammar is already here in Argento's first film: an American writer watches an assault through the glass wall of a Rome gallery, then finds himself trapped between two sliding panes, able to see everything and help nobody. Storaro shot it, Morricone scored it, and the mystery itself is nonsense. Doesn't matter.
