How it scared people
The vibe
Shot at night on the King Kong jungle sets while Cooper and Schoedsack made Kong by day — same swamp, same Fay Wray, same Max Steiner brass. Leslie Banks plays Count Zaroff as a purring aesthete with a scar he can't stop touching, and the whole manhunt sprints by in barely an hour. Pre-Code, no fat on it.
