How it scared people
The vibe
A monster movie that plays almost entirely in blazing daylight, which should defuse it and instead makes the ground itself the threat — nowhere to stand is a better premise than nowhere to run. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward play it as two guys with a truck and a problem, and the graboids are built, not rendered.
