How it scared people
The vibe
Priyadarshan remade the 1993 Malayalam classic Manichitrathazhu, which he'd worked on as an assistant director, and spends two-thirds of the runtime on broad slapstick before Vidya Balan detonates the whole thing. Her Manjulika, a vengeful Bengali dancer, and the "Mere Dholna" sequence built around her are why people still quote this.
