How it scared people
The vibe
Workmen digging a new Underground line at Hobbs End turn up a hull full of dead insects, and Nigel Kneale's script spends the rest of the runtime calmly explaining that human religion, telekinesis and the shape of the devil are all leftovers from a Martian experiment. Hammer's best science fiction, and the cheap final effect can't undo the idea.
