How it scared people
The vibe
Half domestic melodrama with sung musical numbers, half werewolf picture, welded together by one of the most alarming birth scenes in modern horror. Rojas and Dutra render São Paulo as a forbidding matte-painted skyline, then let class and race do the actual snarling. Patient to a fault in its first hour, and worth it.
