How it scared people

The vibe

The script was originally written with the vampires as pre-teens; Schumacher aged them into a motorcycle gang with mullets and got a franchise out of it. Between the shirtless oiled saxophonist and Kiefer Sutherland's peak trenchcoat menace, it wants to be cool far more than scary — though the maggots-and-rice dinner is properly horrifying.
