How it scared people
The vibe
Laura Galán plays a butcher's daughter tormented at the local pool, then handed an impossible choice when her tormentors are taken by a stranger who was kind to her. Pereda shoots in boxy 4:3 so there is nowhere to look away. The film's cruelty is aimed at the town, not the girl.
