The vibe
Whannell's camera keeps drifting off Elisabeth Moss toward empty corners of the room, training you to scan the frame the way she does — which is the whole trick, and it's a great one. Built for around seven million dollars out of the wreckage of Universal's monster-universe plan, it's really a film about not being believed. The restaurant scene earns its gasp.
